“Issues Faced in reporting HIV & AIDS”

 


Background

Seminar on media Dialogue on Issues Faced in reporting HIV&AIDS was conducted by Balochistan AIDS Network (BAN) with close collaboration of Pakistan National AIDS consortium (PNAC) & UNAIDS for the prevention of HIV/AIDS all over the world and in this scenario durable efforts are needed to control the disease. Therefore it is necessary to create awareness from mass media, as well as we need to utilize NGOs and CBOs to play their role at remote areas to create awareness on HIV/AIDS, and its preventive measures

It is commonly believed that the HIV/AIDS is a disease of Foreigners and Pakistan could not acquire it due to its strong Religious, social & Cultural traditions and time has come to change the behaviors of people towards this critical issue as Pakistan is no doubt a low prevalence country, but we cannot deny from the fact that its only high risk because of its territorial conditions and in order to change the behavior of people towards this disease and the people who are suffering from it Media can play a very vital role and for synthesizing general public we have to synthesize the Media people as they can spread the message easily to the people of Pakistan in order to achieve the desired goal a media Dialogue was organized By Balochistan AIDS Network on 8th December 2006 and in the dialogue the Problems media people are facing were also discussed and to have a better partnership with the print and electronic Media for achieving the desired goals an contributing in the noble cause that is fight against HIV/AIDS.

The activity was undertaken to meet following objectives/outcomes:

1. To synthesize the print and electronic media on the critical issue of HIV/AIDS.
2. To change the behavior of general public towards the disease with the help of Media.
3. To create a public private partnership with print & Electronic Media.
4. To identify the reasons for false reporting about HIV/AIDS by media.
5. To identify the problems faced by Media in reporting HIV/AIDS.
6. To find out better solution for BCC about HIV/AIDS through media.
7. Formation of a media committee which will help BAN in advocacy.
